Family Garden Design in Sunninghill, SL5

Brief:

This large-scale garden project in Sunninghill, near Ascot, involved transforming a mature and established garden into a striking outdoor space for a growing family. The existing garden offered plenty of space but needed a more considered layout that could provide generous areas for entertaining and relaxing while significantly reducing ongoing maintenance. The aim was to create a statement garden that felt connected to the house and made full use of the generous plot.

Solution:

The garden was completely transformed with a substantial new terrace forming the centrepiece of the design. A large marble terrace creates a generous outdoor living and entertaining area immediately outside the house. The terrace then steps down into a second, lower-level marble area, creating different spaces within the garden while retaining a strong visual connection between them.

Along the edge of the garden, raised planters create a defined boundary and introduce a substantial planting scheme. Trees and shrubs provide structure, greenery and privacy while softening the expanses of marble and giving the garden a mature, established feel.

The stepped arrangement of the terraces makes use of the garden’s existing scale and creates a series of outdoor spaces rather than treating the garden as one large open area. The finished garden combines the clean lines and practicality of extensive hard landscaping with substantial planting, creating a sophisticated family garden designed for entertaining, relaxing and enjoying throughout the year.
