Beautiful Low Maintenance Garden in Twickenham, TW1

Project Details

Brief:

Transforming a soulless paved patio into a green, harmonious outdoor space, this low maintenance garden in Twickenham was designed with family life firmly in mind. The young family wanted a simple, organised garden that felt inviting and connected to nature, while remaining practical and easy to look after around their busy schedules.

The design introduces a calm palette of neat, pretty evergreen planting, bringing year-round structure, texture and colour to the space. Carefully considered planting softens the hard landscaping, while the layout creates a sense of order without feeling overly formal or rigid. The result is a relaxed and contemporary garden that is both beautiful and functional.

With simplicity and ease of maintenance at the heart of the brief, the finished space demonstrates how a low maintenance garden in Twickenham can provide a lush, welcoming outdoor environment without demanding hours of upkeep — perfect for a young family looking to enjoy their garden rather than constantly maintain it.

Solution:

We began by removing the existing concrete paving to create a fresh canvas for the new garden design. The unattractive neighbouring fence was clad in horizontal-slatted, black-stained timber, providing a clean backdrop and screening three sides of the garden. A simple raised planter wraps around the artificial lawn, introducing soft greenery while keeping maintenance to a minimum. Sawn sandstone connects the hardwood deck to the lawn, with the deck set level with the indoor day room to create a seamless transition between inside and out. Subtle lighting, a wall-mounted water feature and patio heater add atmosphere, making this low maintenance garden an inviting space for relaxed evenings and entertaining. The result is a practical, contemporary garden design in Twickenham that works beautifully for busy family life. See Garden Design
