Low Maintenance Urban Garden Design in Wandsworth

Brief:

The brief was to transform a relatively small urban garden in Wandsworth into a more attractive and practical outdoor space. The existing garden lacked structure and usable areas for relaxing and entertaining. The aim was to create a low maintenance garden with strong planting, additional seating and a more contemporary backdrop, while making the most of the limited space available.

Solution:

The garden was redesigned as a compact urban oasis, with each element carefully considered to make the space feel larger, greener and more usable. A built-in bench provides a permanent seating area and creates a natural focal point within the garden. Behind and around the seating, raised planters introduce different levels of planting and provide space for a carefully selected combination of shrubs and plants.

The planting is an important part of the finished garden, with eye-catching shrubs and greenery softening the hard landscaping and bringing colour, texture and structure into the space. Artificial lawn provides a practical low maintenance surface, allowing the garden to remain green throughout the year without the ongoing maintenance associated with a natural lawn. Stylish lateral timber fencing completes the garden, providing a clean contemporary backdrop while adding warmth and definition to the relatively compact space.

The finished garden demonstrates how a small urban garden can be transformed into a practical and inviting outdoor room without overcrowding the space.
